It’s probably of no surprise to some that I am reviewing this album, having a friend that creamed in his panties at first word of Five Finger Death Punch releasing a new album. However, my friend and I have a completely different taste in music.

If the first album wasn’t enough to make your ears completely flip inside out with the same boring riffs played over and over, War Is The Answer is. I only gave this band the time of day with hope that a new guitarist might shed some light on a band that is driven by scene kids who think they are metal. Fact is, I would rather listen to a song about someone’s pants on the ground than actually partake in the listening of men who have probably been playing music since birth, and continue to put out album after album clearly demonstrating their lack of talent.

I don’t care to specifically analyze different parts of each song, but will say that “Canto 34” was one of the worst instrumental tracks I have ever heard. Why they thought an instrumental on the B side would work is beyond me.

Unable to submit myself to the level of torture I would have to embrace in listening to the full album, I did manage to get a laugh out of their “Bad Company” cover. It was comical to say the least and sounded nothing like the covering of “Bad Company”, rather, the typical Metallica driven underground cover that you hear in your local skank bar. When you are unable to cover songs, I believe it’s time to call it quits.

I highly recommend you pass on buying this album, and if it comes as a present to re-gift.

And you are schooling me on the awards this band/album has received for what purpose? Surely you don’t believe everyone who has received an award musically is deserving. Or better yet, that those who haven’t aren’t, in fact, more rewarding than those “mainstream” artists who have. Don’t play that card with me. I enjoy Mudvayne, Manson, and Slipknot just as much as the next metal head, and they are about as “mainstream” as it gets in this genre. And while I agree, Moody has vocal talent, it’s a shame his vocal talent can be matched with lyrical talent as well.

I agree with Shana about saying a band is not “Metal” enough, I feel as if my band plays an extreme style of music but we also play a lot of weird prog. stuff and everything, and we get hated on by the sweet death metal elitist crowed(and basically fucking everyone in the entire world), but on the other hand if a band/there fan base claims “Five Finger Death Prunch” to be “Heavy”, or “fucking metal” then they are far from being either then you have the right to mouth the piss out of them for making such outrageous claims. Five Finger Death punch can suck it, they suck real bad and I think they need to get in there time machine and go to the present and leave 1998 behind.

Ok, I’m familiar with their work, pre-War is the Answer, which can be loosely interpreted as music. I am only slightly crimson from the admission that I have listened to a few songs willingly on occasion (back in the day, if I may defend).

I consider myself very vocally fixated. Moody doesn’t have a bad voice–in fact, I somewhat enjoy it in all of its robustness. His vocals however do not portray…eh, anything, I guess.
I notice how careful he is in “Hard to See”. It sounds…bad, to say the least. It’s empty in every sense of the word and listening to it makes me feel similar, except for the rage I feel, with the understanding that people are still buying their cds. hehe.

And I agree with your analysis of Canto 34 as well, Kempton. It’s like somebody finally told them that real musicians often use instrumental tracks…(who let them in on this?) This was their attempt, this was their epic fail of the album, in addition to “Bad Company” of course. It sounds like they took an old song, extracted the lyrics, and kept the god awful music behind it, thus labeling it as an instrumental. This is a bad thing. Instrumental tracks are so much more than what Canto 34 makes them out to be. Maybe Moody thought he had ran out of anything substantial to say in his lyrics so he left this one empty. Nobody told him, his lyrics were never substantial in any way before this and were insulting to the English language =/. They’re like Chimara, with the crappy music, and even worse, monotonous lyrics.

Further, as a musician familiar with shitty bass and rhythm lines (or in this case, all instrumental contribution) I find it incredibly dull. I’m not convinced that these boys are truly into what they are doing. They’re the boys that always wanted to be rockstars, but never quite managed the means to obtain this. I guess that’s where powercords come in handy. And who buys this kind of music, you ask? Why, it’s more boys that wish to be rockstars, but don’t have the musicial comprehension to do so effectivcely.

I frequently find myself defending bands that do not put forth, or demonstrate rather, their instrumental capability, fully; bands that don’t solo at every chance or go off on two minute tangents in arrogant guitar solos. But I cannot defend this psuedo music. I cannot condone, I cannot support buying their cds, in fact, I strongly advise against it due to their lack of substantial lyrical, and instrumental contribution. :)

On the bright side, I agree that the instrumental defines and compliments the sounds that emit from Moody…because they both blow. hehe I kid…sort of.

I completely agree with you Kemp10. I hate this band mainly because they sound the same over and over and over. When my Mike (my husband for those that don’t know) was on tour with them on Mayhem. I tried to hide out of earshot of this band always. I gave them a chance 2 of the like 5 nights i saw them and still thought they were ridiculously mundane and just plain old repetive, not to mention they are arrogant assholes. haha I had seen them at least twice before when they played shows in Columbus and nothing of their stage show had changed a bit either. I hope this is the last album they release though i know I will never be that lucky.
