Slipknot Bassist Paul Gray To Join Dio And Steele In Death

Posted on Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 at 2:37PM by Aaron Kempton

It would appear deaths do occur in threes after hearing that Slipknot’s bassist, Paul Gray, was found in his hotel on May 24, 2010 unresponsive. The cause of death is still unknown at this time, but an autopsy was performed on May 25 and showed no signs of foul play. The remaining members of Slipknot have not made any statements on Gray’s death up to this point, but are expected to very soon. Gray’s wife asked everyone to remember her husband for the amazing person he was.

Paul was my husband. He was an amazing person and I just want people to remember him for just that, and his daughter will remember him for the way he was.”

On May 16, 2010, Ronnie James Dio, singer and songwriter, died after a long battle with stomach cancer.  Dio was named “Best Metal Singer” at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in April 2010 for his work on The Devil You Know, making him the oldest recipient of this award. This would be his final public appearance before passing.

After a long period of sobriety and improved health, Peter Steele, singer, bassist, and composer for Type O Negative, passed away due to heart failure on April 14, 2010. Three years before his passing, after claiming to be an atheist for years, Steele began identifying himself as a Roman Catholic. He was later quoted saying, “There are no atheists in foxholes, they say, and I was a foxhole atheist for a long time. But after going through a midlife crisis and having many things change very quickly, it made me realize my mortality. And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what’s after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it’s a frightening thought to go nowhere. I also can’t believe that people like Stalin and Hitler are gonna go to the same place as Mother Theresa.”
